South Africa will be hosting Scotland and Wales in a triangular test series between the 1st and 9th July and East London has been chosen as one of the four venues for a test match. The itinerary gets under way in Johannesburg on the 1st and 2nd July where South Africa take on Wales in a singles encounter on the first day and a doubles series the next. After that its off to Cape Town to play Scotland in the same format on the 4th and 5th before arriving in East London on the 7th July for a singles test match against Wales. Pretoria will host the final test match between Scotland and Wales on the 9th. East London Squash enthusiasts should book now for 18-00 hrs on Thursday 7th July for what should be three enthralling men and women's matches. Tickets can be obtained at a cost of R20 and R10 for adults and scholars respectively from club representatives or from Carol Salzone at the border Squash offices at Cambridge Club. Local interest will be focused on the home grown Craig Van Der Wath who, although approaching veteran status, is still competitive internationally. The respective SA teams are as follows : Men: Adrian Hansen, Rodney Durbach (Kzn), Craig vd Wath (Easterns), Mike Tootill (Gauteng). Ladies: Tenille Swartz, Farrah Fenner (Kzn), Nadine Harber (easterns), Diana Argyle(WP). Coach: Richard Castle BORDER CLOSED The annual Border closed for all leagues was concluded at the end of last month. Kelvin Edwards confirmed his status as number one in our province with a commanding display throughout the tournament which saw him to a straight sets win every time he took to the court including the final against Clinton Broedelet. Mike Farrer, who lost 3-1 to Broedelet in preliminary matches, easily ousted Jason Le Roux to claim 3rd spot. Janet Byrnes saw off the challenges of Michel Botha to be crowned Border women's champion for the first time while Leenta Marx ended 3rd after beating Shan Townes 3-1. LEAGUE SQUASH Half way through the 2005 squash season sees Old Boys dominating both men and women's first league squash. The men have a commanding 30 point advantage over nearest rivals King, while the women's A and B sides are both well ahead of the nearest pursuers, Gonubie. With Border's number one unavailable for Cambridge, Hams were able to get a fullhouse of points and in the process move ahead of their opponents on the evening in the current log standings. Women's matches saw Old Boys B whipping Hams and Gonubie ousting Beacon Bay who could only field three players.
